Mary Harwell Sayler has helped other poets and writers since 1983, first through her poetry home study course then critiques, consults, and editorial services for all genres and ages of readers.
In 1988, Mary taught poetry and fiction writing workshops at the first Christian Writers Conference in Titusville, Fl, where she returned in 1991.
For 4 years, Mary directed the Christian Writers Fellowship International where she edited and produced CWFI’s bimonthly newsletter.
In 1999, Mary began to judge the poetry entered in the international writing competition sponsored each year by Writers-Editors.com. Later she began judging all genres of children’s literature for the competition too.
In 1999, the Atlantic Center For The Arts accepted her for an apprenticeship with a Pulitzer poetry finalist. She also presented poetry workshops that year for the Christian Writers Conference in Birmingham, Alabama, and became the first poetry judge for the Christian Writers Conference in Glorietta, NM.
In 2004, her poetry course on the forms and techniques of traditional poetry and free verse became available in the book Poetry: Taking Its Course.
Also in the early 2000s, her work was featured by the Florida Chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators, the Florida Art Museum, and Two Friends Publishing.
In 2007, Mary began a website to address the many aspects of poetry and to offer other poets or writers tutorial sessions and email options for a critique, writing consult, or final edit of poems and manuscripts in all genres.
In 2008, Mary received a professional listing in Poets & Writers Directory.
In 2009 and 2010, Mary joined several writing groups to network with peers and participate in group discussions. Invite her to connect on LinkedIn and Facebook and follow her on Twitter: @ThePoetryEditor, @poetryofcourse and @MaryHSayler.
Mary also began a blog in her name to discuss common concerns that most poets and writers have. To focus on poetry and provide Followers one free online critique of a 3 to 25-line poem, she started The Poetry Editor Blog.
As an active poet and a freelance and assignment writer, Mary continues to research, write, revise, edit and market her own poems and manuscripts in all genres for all age groups.
Her 25 traditionally published books include children’s novels, inspirational romances, a 7-book series of devotionals, a picture book, high school library resource book, and two life-health encyclopedias, one of which the American Library Association honored as a nonfiction academic favorite for the year.
To date over 300 of her poems have seen print in traditional magazines, journals, anthologies, or e-zines.
